The Audi seemed to be driving driving 120-130 km/h, which is similar to the speed limit which most likely was 120 or 130. The Prius was doing 95 km/h in the passing lane, staying in that lane for too long, hindering the flow of traffic. The Audi was tailgating. Both misbehaved. Which one should get a fine? And why?

A. Audi
B. Prius
C. Neither
D. Both.

Prius. For being a massive douche.

Both, but the Prius should get it worse. Much worse.

If Mr. Audi is doing the speed limit if not 10% more which is generally the accepted upper max before drawing a ticket; he is really doing nothing wrong.

Prius driver is actually violating more traffic laws by misusing the left lane and going UNDER the speed limit is equally dangerous and though you could argue that Mr. Audi should get a reckless driving charge for the tailgating, the Prius is worse off due to the combination of wrongs he is pulling.

Punishment? Maybe slap the Audi driver with a no-demerit ticket of 250.

Suspend the Prius drivers license till they go take a driving course and understand what the left lane is intended for and perhaps remind them that the right lane exists for a reason and if they feel uncomfortable with the speed limit they either need to stay in the right or stay off the motorways.

Prius was actually passing in the passing lane. Not as fast as the Audi would like, but he was passing.

The Audi was following to close, and IMO, that's more dangerous than what the Prius was doing.

First of all, I want to state very clearly that the multi-lane roads in my area are all far, far too crowded for anybody to do that "fast lane is for passing only" business.

OK. When 1.) I'm in the fast lane and 2.) there is a gap ahead of me between my car and the next car ahead (I mean a gap that is larger than your ordinary safe following distance, which I say is about 1-1/2 seconds) and 3.) I see someone catching up behind me in my rear-view mirror, I always do one of two things, either a.) speed up and close that gap ahead of me, or b.) take the first opportunity to slide over and let the guy trying to go faster than I want to go get past me and on his way.

But there is an exception, and that is when that car behind me gets dangerously close behind me at highway speeds. I fucking hate being tailgated, and if you tailgate me I'm not going to go out of my way to make your drive any more pleasant; if you tailgate me super close I might just slow down and match speed with the slow guy in the next lane over for the next five or ten miles. So if you want me to move over and let you pass, give me some breathing room and don't ride my bumper, like that Audi asshole in the video.

Yeah, in the beginning the Prius was passing the semi. Once it did pass the semi, it was about to go back to the slow lane, when it noticed the other semi merging onto the highway, and held its lane to allow the semi to merge. Once it got passed the second semi, it got over.

Sure they could have been going a little faster, but this wasn't exactly a case of camping in the left lane. The Audi driver was the way bigger douche.

Oh and one more thing, when I am changing lanes to let the fast guy by, ordinarily I do it reasonably briskly - none of this BMW-style mad swerving but at least I'm pretty quick about it. But when I am changing lanes because some tailgating asshole is riding my bumper, I change lanes very slowly. This isn't because of pique, but because on more than one occasion when I've been in the process of changing lanes to get out of the way of a tailgater, the tailgater decides that he wants to stomp on the gas and pass me on the right, so if I don't change lanes cautiously and slowly he'll hit my car in his mad rush.

By the way, did I mention that I hate tailgaters? Back in 2006 a drunk guy in a pickup truck rear-ended my '93 Miata and totalled it. Tailgaters can suck my dick.

One important warning for US viewers: passing the Prius on the right is a definite no-no. It'll likely not even have occurred to the Audi driver.

That said, Prius driver's behaviour is debatable; s/he could have gone a little faster, but s/he was just overtaking lorry 1, when another lorry was merging straight after. Audi's tailgating is simply inexcusable whichever way you look at it.

I originally said "C", but I'm changing it to "A". Yes, the Prius could have gone faster, but he was passing the truck and he cleared the truck in time for another truck to enter the roadway. He was sort of stuck, but once he cleared the second truck he moved over. The Audi driver should have exercised a bit more patience.

to be honest, I would have taken juuust that little bit longer to get back into the slow lane if an Audi had been tailgating me.

granted I was rear ended 2 days ago by a tailgater, so my hate for them is pretty much at an all time high.

Only the Audi. Prius was passing a truck, then allowing a truck to merge in. Just cause he's in a shit car doesn't mean he's being a douche. And honestly, if that Audi started riding my ass like that, I'd fuck with him way worse than that Prius did.

I'm going to go with the Prius. Yes, the Audi is tailgating, and generally being a douche, but the Prius is being far worse by blocking traffic. He had an opportunity to get over, and then move back (as demonstrated by the camera car) and let the Audi go past.

Get the fuck over in the right lane, let everyone else pass, and then do your pass, or floor the accelerator and get around (Don't exceed the speed limit unless in Germany with no hard limit)

Passing on the right is strictly verboten.

Also, while there are some Dutch Jalops on Oppo (Hoi! Hoe gaat het?) ...I can't say I'm *that* surprised. I had another example (I think it was a Peugeot wagon or something with NL plates) pull into the passing lane, with zero turn signal given, while I was in the left lane on the A3 in Germany.

Brakes on the B180 are very, very good.

Well, like you might know I'm Dutch myself. The behavior of the Prius isn't business as usual, although I can't say I never encounter this. The behavior of the Audi is slightly less common. The lack of turn signals you mentioned is something that annoys me greatly though, I think the police should start a publicity campaign and, one month later, should ticket the hell out of this. I think many people don't even realize what they're doing wrong.

I'd say Audi. The Prius was passing, passed the truck, was going to go over to the right, but saw another truck coming onto the highway from an on ramp. Audi needs patience, Prius needs to learn to use a turn signal.

Ticket Audi for tailgating, ticket the Prius of impeding the flow of traffic, and then beat the Prius driver with a tire iron. Justice, I say!

Come to think of it, I recall that you are Dutch. Perhaps its the random sample I got, but I had more encounters with NL plated cars than I did with F, B, D, or L plates.

And there are some crazy French drivers.

I'm still planning another trip to Amsterdam. I'll take the Dutch drivers I encountered just to be able to ride a bicycle through Amsterdam.

Although there was a PL lorry that one time...
